In 2018, the Government Digital Service (GDS) flagship event, Sprint, returned bigger and better than before. After a hiatus in 2017, it was especially important to build hype, excitement and intrigue, promoting early registration to the event and engaging appropriate audiences. The GDS communications team developed a social media plan that included a requirement to highlight some of the key achievements of digital government in recent years, including on GOV.UK, home of all government’s online content.
Three animated ‘teasers’ were produced to highlight some of these achievements in the GDS and GOV.UK design style – synonymous with those in digital government.
The teasers, released on Twitter, were strategically important to the event marketing, and aided awareness and excitement of the event. Sprint18 ultimately gained record attendance. Further Sprint video and animated content was commissioned, including an edited on-the-day highlights film, broadcast to delegates at the end of the event.
